Hydraulic scrap pusher charging a melting furnace at an operating plant.
Est. 2003 · Ahmedabad, India
Vinod Manufacturing Private Limited designs and manufactures scrap processing, furnace charging and hydraulic material handling equipment for steel plants, foundries and recycling operations.
What the melt shop is actually fighting
Dr. G. L. Grover's research addressed a specific problem: how to process uneven steel scrap, DRI and sponge iron so that recovery becomes predictable and melting costs less energy.
- 01
Power consumption during melting
Melting is the single largest energy cost in a steel plant. The charge mix, its density and how quickly it reaches the furnace all move the meter.
- 02
Recovery from uneven scrap
Uneven steel scrap, DRI and sponge iron behave differently in the furnace. Processing them to a consistent size and density is what makes recovery predictable.
- 03
Furnace charging time
Every minute the furnace roof is open is heat leaving the bath. Charging method determines how much of the cycle is spent melting rather than loading.
- 04
Manual handling in the melt shop
Pushing and poking a charge by hand puts operators near an open furnace. Hydraulic handling moves that work away from the heat.
“The energy saved is better than energy produced.”
To optimize power consumption while melting and efficient recovery of steel from scrap.
Equipment
Seven families covering size reduction, handling, compaction, charging, slag recovery and furnace lining.
01Scrap Shredder
Size reduction and precision shape cutting for mixed and uneven steel scrap, ahead of charging or baling.
02EOT Grabber / Grapple
Crane-mounted grabbers for moving loose scrap around the yard, the bay and the charging floor.
03Bailing Press
Compaction and continuous shearing to turn loose scrap into dense, stackable, chargeable bales.
04Hydraulic Pusher / Poker
Hydraulic pushers and pokers that work the charge inside a melting furnace without putting an operator at the door.
05Scrap Charger
Direct and indirect charging systems that feed material into the furnace, including belt conveyor systems.
06Slag Processing
Recovery of entrained metal from slag, and conversion of the residue into a saleable product.
07Rammer
Furnace lining rammers, including multi-arm sets with bottom rammer and automatic programmed panel.

Engineering behind the equipment
VMPL was established in 2003, following the founder’s earlier work as a consultant providing technology, technical know-how and turnkey project solutions across the Middle East, Africa and India, backed by over 50 years of industry experience.
VMPL has designed a range of Hydraulic Scrap Handling systems, including Scrap Pushers for melting furnaces, Vibrator Chargers, and specially engineered Tilting Trolleys that feed material directly into the furnace. We have also developed various other direct and indirect charging systems, including belt conveyor systems.

Charge mix, cycle time, and how material reaches the furnace today. That is usually enough for a first conversation about what would change.
